I noticed your posting and could not help but answer it since I had a real bad case of this injury. I cannot say much on the healing itself, but I can tell you that your calf muscle will probably be weak for the rest of your life if the injury was bad enough.
What I suggest you do from now on is to think of your calf when you play. Yes, you do have to change direction in tennis a lot. However, if you take that extra time to change direction your leg will not be under so much stress. It takes an adjustment in your approach to the game. I think you will find that taking that time to change direction will be easier on your body and your game will not suffer that much.
This is all about Physics and a change in momentum when you change direction. There is a lot of force exerted on your legs when you change. If you take the extra half a second to make the change in direction you should be alright.
