THe lowering of the resting heart rate is due to the heart becoming more effecient in delivering the necessary blood to the body. The training rates are also affected but for the same reason. Through proper conditioning your heart rate might be at 70% but your speed can be 4 to 12% faster or more. Your heart and lung can only be so effecient. It's your muscular sysmtem and nervous system that can progress and tax your heart less. Roy
