Paul,
I am new to running and you've given me some great advice already - many thanks!
Anyway, I stated running at the beginning of the year and got shin splints. I took about 2 1/2 weeks off (biking while I was off). I have started running about 1 1/2 weeks ago and my shins are hurting again. I am only doing about 2 miles/day.
I am doing the exercises you recommended - laying on the bed, pulling my legs into the mattress. It seems to help, but I can't seem to get into a pattern without having to take off some time.
Is this normal for new runners to get repeated shin splints? Will it eventually go away as I build up my strength? I have fairly new shoes (New Balance 851) - could they be the cause? Should I keep taking time off and then try again each time it happens?
Finally, I have tried your run coach program - great!! But is it more important to try to achieve the distance or the heart rates? My heart rate seems to always be higher - is this because I am new to this?
Many thanks!!
