Stacey,
I am not an expert on dieting being more focussed on running itself but will see if I can help.
The basic theory is that if the take in more calories than you exercise off then you will store fat. Some people are lucky they seem to have a metabolism that constantly uses energy (fidgety, or just hotter etc) and these people seem never to put on weight. Others need some sort of self-discipline to achieve the same effect.
Firstly you should achieve a balance with the amount of exercise you want to do verses what you wish to eat. You should be comfortable with this balance to keep it up for some time. Once you have struck the right balance your body should adjust to a new lower weight.
The trick is keeping it going. There are many ways to motivate yourself to keep it up. I will mention several common ones
- Set some goals (eg after a month I will indulge myself, a new item of clothing etc)
- Surround yourself with like minded people. A positive peer group which encourages your lifestyle will help.
- Create a poistivec association between yourself self image and body shape (affirmations)
Sorry I can't be more help
Regards
Paul
