Kelley,

Overpronation is caused by excessive inward role of the foot. Some inward role is normal, the key is to look for excessive role. Once you have used your shoes for a while you can tell overpronation by wear on the inner side of the shoe. Placed on a flat surface your shoes will lean in.

Orthotics can help and you should see a specialist to make sure they correct the overpronation when running.
